Turner Industries Group is looking for a Safety Manager to assist in the managing and planning of project safety and health, worker's compensation, and OSHA recordkeeping functions for an industrial jobsite in St. Paul, MN. Candidate will develop written programs and procedures in accordance with OSHA and must communicate with client and contractor management on status of the program(s).

Per diem and relocation is not available for this position; the successful candidate will be a current resident in the St. Paul, MN area.


Maintains relationships with Site Manager to assure safety and health of employees. Assures H&S goals/objectives met and communicated to the client and company H&S department. Maintains relationships with client managers of safety, health to advise them of safety related issues which impact the project. Maintains applicable Industrial Maintenance H&S policies and procedures. Manages and directs all corporate and project H&S Department functions on the maintenance project. Plans H&S activities for maintenance on a short and long term basis taking into consideration company objectives, client requirements & project needs. Represent Turner in meetings with clients, governmental agencies & contractors to resolve immediate safety issues. Reviews all applicable federal/state H&S regulations and procedures. Maintain knowledge of current enforcement policies. Works to achieve H&S compliance in the most cost-effective manner. Manages H&S personnel training and development programs to meet the requirements of H&S. Consult's with corporate H&S on compliance activities.

Qualification Standards:

  • Technical training and industrial related safety experience - (A.A.S, B.S. or certifications - COSS, COSM, ASP, CSP)
  • Minimum 7 years experience in a safety and health role on the job with Industrial Maintenance related background
  • Prior plant experience
  • Must have prior safety management experience of increasing scope and scale
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical expertise in safety, to include regulatory requirements
  • OSHA recording keeping
  • Understands safety compliance auditing processes, and the ability to complete internal audits
  • Experience in Safety Incident Investigations
  • Ability to effectively deliver training
  • Ability to implement safety processes
  • Proactive and assertive with a high sense of urgency
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and meet deadlines under high pressure
  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem solving skills
  • Willingness to work "off shift" hours as needed
  • Ability to work within all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and procedures with respect to H&S issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory/corporate guidelines
  • Record keeping and reporting safety statistics and trend analysis
  • Provide safety coaching and recognition
  • Coordinate and participate in all incident investigations and follows up to ensure that all corrective actions are completed
  • Schedule and provide all required safety training
  • Work with operations to proactively raise safety awareness to the next level
  • Evaluate Behavior Based/Observation Safety Programs
  • Working with employees to develop Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Meet monthly with client H&S for safety performance review

Functional Requirements:

Conducts regular walk through inspections of construction areas; identifies, documents and recommends resolutions of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions and follows through to ensure that corrections have been made; documents and investigates all accidents, safety violations and other unsafe conditions or activities; compiles data, photographs, etc. and prepares all pertinent forms and reports according to corporate procedures and federal, state and local regulations associated with accidents; issues various entry permits (i.e. to confined spaces) as required; assists in emergency rescues as required; assists in maintaining fire protection and grounding systems; assists in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through interfacing with management/supervisory personnel; participates in developing and conducting personnel safety training programs.

May be required to do the following; following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; following oral/or written directions; knowledge of federal, state and corporate safety standards and regulations; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards

Physical Involvement:

This positions requires constant (70-100%) Standing; Walking; Lifting 20-50 lbs; Carrying 20-50 lbs; Pushing; Pulling; Climbing; Balancing; Bending; Stooping; Kneeling; Crouching; Crawling; Reaching; Handling; Feeling; Hearing (listening) and Observing (vision). This position is subject to potentially extreme outside environmental conditions and on-site hazards including but not limited to; moving industrial equipment, confined spaces, LO/TO, working at heights, high noise etc.

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; walking; pushing; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.
